Kris Shaw is a native of our state, living in Havre, Montana, with her husband, David, and their three sons. She works as a professional framer, at High Plains Gallery, where she has amassed a following of loyal, repeat customers. She has quite an eye for color, and her framing talents are the best in town.   Shaw is also involved with numerous church and community activities and social gatherings.

Anyone who knows Kris realizes she is a free spirit---this is evident through the diversity of her artwork. She enjoys exploring new techniques and pushing the media to learn what she can do. She's not one to shy away from a challenge, and enjoys doing whatever people say "cannot be done." All the world and her imagination are references for her subject matter. Mostly, Kris likes to begin by putting color onto the paper, and then finding her subject---like finding interesting shapes in clouds. Shaw works primarily in watercolor, but she enjoys exploring new techniques in pencil, and pastel painting, as well as ink. In addition to her two-dimensional artwork, Kris has her own exclusive line of original jewelry, created from printed papers. Most recently, she has begun creating innovative wire sculptures.

Studying under the watchful eye of Dave Maloney and Robert Kercher, while living in Great Falls, gave her a solid base in her art education. Kris grew up with the vibrant influences of Andy Warhol and Peter Max. She credits Van Gogh with teaching her that art doesn't have to be only realistic painting. She embraces colors, shapes, and pure imagination. When she can get away from her demanding schedule, she keeps current of new techniques by eagerly participating in classes and workshops throughout Montana. Her personal favorites are workshops sponsored by the Montana Watercolor Society.

Kris is an active member of the Havre Art Association, Montana Mid-State Art Society (MMAS), and serves on the Board of Directors of the Montana Watercolor Society (MTWS). She is Chair for the MTWS Annual Open Members Juried Art Show held each spring in Lewistown, Montana---which also includes a watercolor workshop, featuring a Montana artist as it's instructor.

You can see Kris' artwork at High Plains Gallery and the Havre Heritage Center in Havre. She also displays her work at the Lewistown Art Center, MonDak Heritage Center in Sidney, and Paris Gibson Square in Great Falls, and at the Montana Seed Show in Harlem.
