“The
hardest part in painting is starting with a blank sheet of paper staring back
at you. The fun starts when applying the paint and the creative process begins.
The end result is not as important as the process.”
Over all
she was impressed by the quality, use of technique, media, and subject matter.
The show was very well framed and the most professionally hung show she’s seen
all year.
-
Gold award, Cindy Brabec-King – She (Mary Alice) is interested in what the artist says from the heart. She can smell and taste the
brandy, feel the subject. Very strong abstract design weaving a path through the
painting.
-
Silver award, Elizabeth Groves – Wow! Just pulls you into
the painting of Chinese Laundry, the extra turquoise took nerve and works. The
painting is great on the slide but is more powerful in actuality.

-
Bronze award, Ann Hardy – She likes the feel of the
sun on the bushes, very expressive. Has the feel of a plein air painting with
great abstract quality.
-
Presidents Award, Ed Nolde – Enjoyed the play of
color, it ‘wowed’ Nancy.
-
MTWS members award, Patrycia
Herndon – She can feel the subject,
it comes out of the painting (referring to the lace and the persimmon)..
-
H.C. Dodd – Mary Alice was interested
that she (Dodd) creates her paintings from a collage. Dodd paints so strongly, the
painting seems more masculine than a woman’s painting. (Mary Alice wasn’t
totally comfortable making that statement but didn’t know how else to say it.)
-
Cecilia Lucchesi & Loren
Kovich – Both know their
techniques and medium, the colors explode and flow.
-
Z.L. Feng – Wonderful detail and
texture in the beard. Very well done.
-
Abby Lammers – Painting flows; it's not
stilled by the shapes.
-
Nancy
Halter – Enjoyed each of the caves, the artist has created the feeling of
the caves, can imagine Indians or children investigating them.
-
Gordon Zuelke – She enjoyed walking by the painting; the sparkles really gave the feeling
of sunlight hitting the leaves.
-
Nancy Cawdry – Her painting on silk
comes through in her work on paper. Mary Alice was concerned about the border but
enjoyed it after seeing it hung.
-
Birgit O’Connor – The color flows, it has a
smoothness. Strong abstract design, yet realistic.
-
Beverly Fotheringham – She feels the ripples of
the water, well executed, strong design. Noticed it wasn’t the usual
presentation of a boat; it is original.
-
Dan Oltrogge – Strong, almost like a
photo, but wonderful.
-
Judy Micheal – Likes the simplified
subject, impressed by the control of color and details.
-
Lila Putnam – Comes across as the
viewer is in the pond, as if inside the painting. The painting continues to grow
outside of the frame.
-
Joe
Ziolkowski – This is Montana to Mary
Alice. She liked the impression of the Wild West. Good use of limited color and
strong.
