Margaret Zieg Eller Artist Statement For nearly forty years, watercolors have brought joy to me. I cherish their exuberant colors, juiciness, and options that range from tight control to let-‘er-rip loose. I embrace the age old traditions of transparent watercolors, those washes, glazes, and layers that build from light to dark, as well as nontraditional newcomers like metallic gesso that glitters like gold leaf without breaking the bank. My art honors the beauty of the commonplace—from work boots and work horses to old barns and the livestock that seek shelter within. It explores and celebrates the power of place—the Chinook-blasted grasslands and storm-swept Front Range, the hard-shadowed buttes and towering skyscapes—that mark the seasonal rhythms of central Montana. www.prairieislandellers.weebly.com [email protected] |

Artist Statement "If you stay at it long enough, something is bound to Happen". I'm there. Lots of wonderful awards have come my way, locally, nationally, and now internationally. I'm always surprised. I certainly value the company I am measured against. My heart leaps when I fall in love with something I judge, a possible painting. Gallery 16 in Great Falls and notable artist's workshops have helped me gain confidence as I challenge myself with each venture. Join the Montana Watercolor Society and get going! My work records varied subjects from the Northwestern US, Hawaii, Vietnam, South Africa, India, Myanmar, Chile, Peru, Mexico and the Philippines in traditional watercolor painting, experimental oriental and brush stroke sumi painting. |
Jean Hand Triol
MTWS President 2018-19 Artist’s Statement Being an artist has taught me to look at the world in a special way, awakening me to color, shape, design and beauty in nature and everywhere. I am inspired by mountains, water, and skies, the intimacy of flowers, human figures and faces, and animals, domestic or wild. I want my art to hold the beauty of Earth and her human family in a good place, a true loving light. I am happiest creating art with watercolor or acrylic paints in the studio or plein air, alone or with friends, in a style ranging from representational to impressionistic. My fondest reward and delight is in learning that one of my paintings has touched the heart and imagination of another person.
