Meet the Board

"One More Cup of Coffee" Gail Garrison  6"x8"

Gail Garrison serves as Slide Chair on our Board of Directors.
She is the person who prepares your slides for the jurors of our annual Watermedia event.
She lives in Missoula, Montana, where she shares her paintings at Missoula Watercolor Society’s annual Second Thought show. Although she has taken painting and drawing classes sporadically over the years, Gail prefers representational transparent watercolor. As her medium of choice, watercolor helps her add subtle color and shape to the Montana landscape she finds so appealing.  Ultramarine Blue and Quinachrodone Gold are her favorite colors, especially in combination with each other. She owns the requisite ‘million brushes’, but mostly depends on a 1" flat and a #6 round.  Gail likes to experiment with different papers, using Fabriano, Yupo, Winsor Newton, Masa, and Arches #140. She enjoys the variations that different papers can make in her work. Gail credits all her kind friends and fellow artists with encouraging and influencing her to live her life with art in it. Her favorite artist is Andrew Wyeth, because she finds his loose and free style so inspiring. Gail is a regular reader of Watercolor, Watercolor Magic, and The Artist’s Magazine. She loves Natalie Goldberg’s book “Living Color”, because Natalie paints the world around her, using her own goofy perspective and wonderfully vivid colors, covering every square inch of her paper with paint. Watercolor workshops are a wonderful incentive to travel, so Gail has taken Barbara Nechis’ workshop in the spring at Napa Valley, California, to see her fabulous studio.  But, the two weeks she spent in the Greek Isles with Diane Maxey was the best! Gail reminds us to “schedule painting time into your life, make an appointment to paint or set a regular time to get together with other artists.”
You owe it to yourself, and to your career.
