WINTER 2004-05

I’d like to thank Vicky Campbell for her hard work and devotion to MTWS. She has managed this organization well. MTWS has certainly benefited from her attention to detail, planning and organizational abilities, and people skills. Vicky went above the call of duty when she extended her two year term for a third year as President when we asked her to stay on. I’m glad to follow in Vicky’s footsteps. She is a good teacher.

Margo Voermans is changing Board positions; she was elected to the position of Vice President from Secretary. She has an innate ability to see things that need attention and she makes sure they get done.   She worked hard as secretary keeping records at meetings and functions. Her time and effort is appreciated. She is a great advisor in board discussions on issues and policies. I’m glad to have her on working with us on the board.

Our other retiring board members include: Jean Hand Triol, who organized two fine Watermedia Events, including the exhibition, workshop and banquet. We all thank her for all her hard work.   Florance O’Neal, who worked diligently to try to put together a traveling show for MTWS. We learned many things from Florance’s efforts and may pursue this show again in the future. Thank you, both, for your time and enthusiasm.

Welcome to Jan Stout, who will co-chair Watermedia with Vickie Johnson. We also welcome Lois Sturgis who will be the new Raffle Book Director. Both Jan and Lois are from Kalispell. In December, Ron Paulick of Great Falls will be taking over the Membership Chair position from Jane Latus of Whitefish. Thank you, Jane, and welcome Ron.

There are two positions open on the MTWS board: Secretary and the new Regional Show Chair.   These are excellent opportunities to get involved with the continuing development of MTWS,   please contact any of the board members on the back of the newsletter. This is really a terrific group of people to work with.   Everyone works together to make the Montana Watercolor Society what it is and keeps it a growing, vital organization. We all have something in common, the fascinating medium of watercolor.

As your newly elected President, I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I am a working artist in a small ranching and farming community on the east slopes of the Rocky Mountains . I have a frame shop and studio in downtown Fairfield , Montana . My life revolves around trying to make a living with art. My husband, Laurence Vincent, works as hard at it as I do. Though he does not paint, he works with me on every other aspect. I enjoy painting in a traditional, realistic style. My subjects are equine, western and landscapes. Watercolor has been my main medium since the late ‘70s. I’m primarily self-taught, but I have learned much through the great workshops with MTWS. I’ve been marketing my originals and prints at art shows, festivals and auctions throughout the west since 1996. I’ve been a member of MTWS since 1995. I reached Signature membership in 2000.  I started on the board as the Signature Membership Chair in 2000.

I look forward to working with all of you for the next two years.
