Juror Gallery Talk Excerpts
Jan Hart---Juror
To begin to narrow down the field
of 320 slides, Juror Jan Hart went
with those that had that “WOW”
Factor. That narrowed it down to
200. From there she looked for those that were more than a pretty
picture, those that appealed to the
other emotions and had strong
design. Paintings must have more
than technique; technique must
support the design.
During the opening reception
presented by Bigfork Art and
Cultural
Center
(BACC), the public
followed Hart through the gallery
for a highly informative talk. She
discussed all of the 26 award
winning paintings and explained
her personal criteria for selection.
She pointed out other paintings she
said were highly deserving, if only
she hadn’t run out of awards.

Gold
Award and Medallion

Karen Leigh “Inside Out”
This
painting jumped out
of the projector! It appealed to Jan emotionally and design wise,
lustrous play of color. The beams
carry the edges around the
composition; your eye circulates
then comes to rest on the blue sky.
Silver
Award

Ann Pember “Cascading
Stream”
Amazing
design, colors are very unified. It’s
very difficult to get that flow into
the water. This painting is organic;
we can almost hear the water.
Bronze
Award

Cindy Brabec-King
“Sugar
Plum
Faeries”
A
powerful painting but not easily
approached. It has a very strong
design and a dark side. She has
chosen such a light title for a heavy
painting.
MTWS
Founder’s Award
Loren Kovich “A Very Pheasant
Morning”
This painting really
captured the light and feeling of
cold.
The shadows are done
superbly, the perspective of the
shadows is correct.
Well organized
with the play of warm and cool
shadows.
MTWS
President’s Award
Nancy Cawdry “East Meets West”
President Vicky Campbell
chose
this painting because it was so
exuberant. The design and the
colors are rich with contrast. The
collage has a very interesting
texture.
MTWS
Board Award
Louis Archambault “Divine
Inspiration”
A beautiful painting. The
architecture is wonderfully
rendered.
An inspiring and
uplifting painting.
Nancy
Beelman Award
Florance O’NeaI “Hmmmm”
This is
watercolor at its best. Very well
done. She has a beautiful
mix of
grays, wonderful use of line and
shadow.
