WATERMEDIA 2000 October in picturesque Bigfork
on Flathead Lake was again the scene of the Watermedia 2000 exhibit,
workshop, banquet, and annual general membership meeting. The workshop
at Marina Cay Resort on the
lake’s edge is always an inspirational painting setting. Jean Grastorf, workshop instructor and Watermedia juror, guided 24 students in techniques of pouring luminous watercolor washes using masking fluid and layers of liquid watercolors mixed in plastic cocktail cups and poured on wet paper. Bob and Myra Lindborg hosted
Jean’s slide presentation get-together and social. Many thanks to them
and to Bob for all he does to make Watermedia a success. The opening reception and Grastorf’s
gallery talk at the Bigfork Art and Cultural Center on Friday was well
attended. Many Montana artists exhibiting in the show were there, along
with Jackie Black, Hawaii, and Lorna Corathers, California. The awards banquet in Quincy’s
restaurant was excellent, both the food and the socializing. Lee
Morrison and Marge Harper, founding members of MTWS, attended along with
13 artists in the show, including three award winners and new Signature
Members Nancy Cawdry, Leslie Drake-Robinson, and Diane Hausmann. The members’ art auction,
dynamically directed by Vicky Campbell, made $625! The Watercolor Raffle Book raised $510 and was won by Tina
Schwartzman. Thanks to all who donated to either or both! Next year’s Watermedia exhibit
will be at the Bigfork Art and Cultural Center with juror and workshop
instructor Mary Alice Braukman. Watch for information in the January
newsletter. The exhibit saw 233
slide entries from 125 artists in 24 states, with 74 paintings
selected... 38 MTWS members,
