Mary Alice Braukman
"As a painter my primary goal is to create a
natural feeling of motion, dimension, and texture.
I want to encourage the viewer...to feel adventure in my work.
Many of my ideas come from my travels as I
see
clouds, water, land formations and abstract forms."
This year's workshop instructor, Mary Alice Braukman works in mixed water
media, collage and assemblages. Her art is about experimenting on various
papers and combining different media by layering and lifting. She oftens
refers to the technique as as unearthing of color. Her goal is to
introduce creative textural surfaces and to make a unique visual personal
statement.
She teaches workshops throughout the US in experimental water
media and collage for intermediate and advanced painters emphasizing design, composition, and individual style.
She introduces students to textural surfaces on a variety of papers and
illustration board, emphasizing design, composition, and individual style.
Many of her collage pieces are made by layering and using torn parts from
unresolved paintings.
Since the 1980's she has exhibited widely and been an award winner in state, regional and national juried exhibitions, and is also
a signature member of eight societies including the National Watercolor Society.
She has juried nine watermedia shows since 1992, and is Director of the Kanuga Watercolor Workshops in Hendersonville, North
Carolina.
Most recently, Mary Alice served as guest editor for the American Artist Magazine's Watercolor 2001 Winter edition. She makes her home in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mary
Alice writes, "Jean Grastorf's Christmas card arrived today with photos of
your area. It looks quite lovely. My husband is familiar with the
area and he is quite anxious to return. Jean said you have a very good
group and excellent workshop room. She had nothing but praise."
